HIMS Education Specialist

Position Summary
The HIMS Educator is responsible for coordinating the ICD10 physician and coding staff education.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Acts as the coding resource person and keeps abreast of new guidelines and technical developments, and provides continuous education to the technical staff
Develops and recommends hospital specific coding guidelines, as needed.
Coordinates and performs the ICD10 training of new and existing coding and medical staff
Serves as the point person for the department and the organization to answer coding questions and/or resolve coding issues
Supports the revenue cycle integrity team by investigating and resolving coding and billing edits on a regular basis
Communicates effectively with physicians and coding staff regarding coding issues, and resolves any discrepancies in accordance with applicable guidelines
Assists with production coding assigning the diagnoses and procedures documented in the medical record using the appropriate coding system and in accordance with regulatory guidelines, when needed
Assists with responding to denial reviews, internal and external audits and/or data requests as necessary
Develops and performs internal outpatient coding audits on redefined intervals, reviewing the accuracy and consistency of medical record documentation, bringing any inconsistencies to the attention of the appropriate individual
C.C.S. required; RHIT or RHIA preferred
2-4 years Coding experience (Inpatient and Outpatient)
AHIMA ICD10 Trainer Preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
